How Smart Charging works
While using Smart Charging, your ZEB automatically determines when and how much to charge based on:
- Your energy tariff
- The local weather forecast
- Grid carbon intensity
- A prediction of your heat demand based on past use
Charging preference
When using Smart Charging, you can choose whether your ZEB charges at any time or only during off-peak periods of your energy tariff.
- Allow Peak: Your ZEB will primarily schedule charging during off-peak periods, but it may top up during peak times if needed to meet your expected heat demand.
- Only Off-Peak: Your ZEB will charge exclusively during off-peak periods. On days with higher than expected heat demand, you may need to manually Boost Charge to add extra heat.
This gives you the power to decide what comes first: the lowest possible bills or a little extra peace of mind.
Please note: By default, your ZEB is set to Allow peak. This can be changed through ‘Charging Settings’ in the tepeo app
Cost vs Carbon priority
When using Smart Charging you can select what you’d like your ZEB to optimise for when charging:
- Cost : If you'd like to optimise for cost, the ZEB will plan to charge based on the cheapest times available. Depending on your tariff, this may mean using electricity that is largely generated from fossil fuels.
- Carbon : If choose to optimise for carbon, the ZEB will plan to charge at the greenest times (or when the carbon intensity of the grid is lowest). This can be during high-cost times and can result in higher energy bills.
